The summer time (CEST) has begun from night to Sunday. In Austria, too, clocks were set forward to 3 a.m. promptly at 2 a.m., and the night was 60 minutes shorter. The changeover to standard time (CET) will take place on the last weekend in October. It is still unclear how the abolition of the time changeover in the EU – which has been decided in and of itself – will proceed. The ball is still in the court of the EU Council of Ministers, and the transport ministers are responsible.

As the abolition of the annual time change continues to be on hold in Brussels, the Council of Ministers of the Austrian federal government prolonged the summer time changeover in February as a formal act until 2026. The European Parliament voted in March 2019 with a large majority for the abolition of daylight saving time as of 2021 – or a year later if there should be difficulties for the single market. However, most member states must still agree to this to become a reality.
